2024 Upcoming Aerial & Kids Yoga Schedules

Happy New Year! I’m excited for 2024 and all of its possibilities. Here’s the upcoming schedule of yoga classes offered by both Flying Beach Yoga & Kula Yoga Kids. I invite you to check any of it out, as there’s hopefully something for everyone in your family. If any of these classes are of interest to you but you’d like to request a different time or location, contact me at FlyingBeachYoga@gmail.com and we’ll see what we can do.

Kids Aerial Yoga is a class designed to empower and uplift kids to their highest authentic selves.  Using the colorful hammocks, we develop increased proprioception of where our bodies are in time and space in relation to the earth.  The aerial yoga practice is powerful for kids in building self awareness, self confidence, and strength in a fun environment.  Kids need to bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing that does not have buttons or zippers as it can rip the fabric.  (Also no jewelry). Their adults are welcome to stay or go during the class.  Space is limited to 10 so pre-registration is required.  Ages 7 and up.

The Kids Yoga Colors  & Sounds  Series is a program where we learn about how energy is organized through the body using the chakra system. Each week we focus on a different energy center and its associated color, as well as tools including yoga poses, specialized meditations, as well as learning about foods, sound frequencies (associated music notes), and even stones to learn how to better take care of our body and mind as we grow.

We use yogic philosophy to explain the 5 elements, our 5 senses, and how those elements are organized in the body as well as our perceptions of our outer world.

Your child will receive 7 chakra stones and a ‘Kula Yoga Kids’ Color & Sounds Activity Book their first week as part of the learning curriculum. Classes are 45 minutes long and led by Michele Fedora, ERYT500.

Early Release Wednesdays  until 2:15pm.

Kids Yoga classes are fun classes that seem more like playtime to the kids than yoga. Our qualified Kula Yoga Kids instructors will take the kids through a series of yoga poses all the while teaching them to connect with their inner peace. This is done through yoga postures, breathing techniques, and mindfulness practices. This is a 45 minute class once weekly held on school premises. It is open ONLY to the kids of the school where it is located. Kids should come in comfortable clothes with a water bottle and yoga mat. (Mats for sale online or on site with instructor for $20 each, carrying straps for $10). Instructor will bring a few  rental mats for students who forgot theirs, but it is recommended for them to bring their own.

Aerial Yin uses the hammock to set our bodies up in postures that stretch the body’s connective tissue, particularly around the joints, which means being in the asana for several minutes to get the desired effect.  Yoga asanas are designed to touch each part of the body in order to take care of it.  Yin tissues like tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues need slow, gentle pressure delivered steadily in stillness for longer periods. This is a  practice designed to open you up physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, bringing us all to our centers.

Aerial Yin is a practice of letting go. We show up, and go looking for all the places we are holding tension in the body. The asanas show us the way. Once we enter a posture, we breathe and simply stay. The studio is filled with healing sounds, both familiar and not,To give the mind space to unwind, so we can release all the knots. Guided mediations are offered in flow as your mind calms to a whisper, As you let go while the candlelight flickers. We are supported in the hammocks both down low and up high, for Aerial Yin is also the practice to gain control of our minds. If the class appears full, go ahead and walk in, You can practice using bolsters and blocks on the mat for this candlelight yin. Sign-up is at https://www.mykulayoga.com

Kula Yoga Kids Class restarts at Cypress Creek Elementary!

Kula Yoga Kids Class @ CCE 111021

Kula Yoga Kids is back at Cypress Creek Elementary! And the kids showed up more than ever before! I’m so grateful to be hosting these kids yoga classes at VCS campuses, and this one is special for many reasons. It’s where Luke, my son, goes to school. It’s where we started our after school program years ago. It’s where we had our “yoga club” portable on campus, and most recently it’s where we host kids yoga classes after school on early release Wednesdays.  Sarah and I are co-hosting this one, she is an amazing Kula Yoga Kids teacher. I’ve known her for a long time, as she was also Luke’s VPK teacher years ago. (He’s 10 now).  I thought she was amazing then and that has never changed. I’m grateful to host this with her and rest assured your child will learn much and are in very capable hands with us. We had so many kids sign up last minute that we had Kerry, one of our beloved Kula Kid moms I’ve had the pleasure of knowing for years now, come to help us this day and I was very happy she could attend. We had lots to do with new mats to hand out to signing everyone in and setting up in a circle so we all could see each other.  For this size class we will have 3 adults there each week. If, as a parent, you would ever like to come help us for a day, message me and I’m glad and grateful to coordinate that with you.  It’s a fun time and you’ll get to see what we do. It was great to see older friends from before and new friends as well! We are looking forward to next weeks class and many more to follow.

We learned a lot of yoga poses during our first class and will continue to expand that. We also learned breathing techniques to release energy (lion’s breath) and (even breathing) to cultivate peace. We also used the mantra “Peace Begins With Me” to bring the mind’s focus inward as we practiced breathing while touching our thumb to each finger bringing attention to fine motor skills.  In classes we use stories, music, and games to learn yogic principles so every class is different while informative and fun.

We sent mats home with the kids this past week because I didn’t have anything large enough to haul them in. I now do have a rolling cart to put them in so if your child would like to store their mat with me instead of carrying it to school, they will be able to starting next class. (They will need their name written on their mat with Sharpie if it’s staying with me).  I also have some mat carrying straps if you’d rather them carry them. They’re $10 and I will bring them next week if you want to see them or purchase one at parent pick up. Rubber bands around a rolled up mat help keep them in place too.

For yogis ages 7-11, I offer kids aerial yoga classes at Kula Yoga in NSB Wednesdays at 4pm… I know it’s the same day. I will be offering extra classes over Thanksgiving break while they’re out of school so if you’re child would like to attend, check the http://www.mykulayoga.com website or MindBody to sign up.

For the parents, I’d like to invite you to our studios to have a yoga class. We have a studio in the PO Pavilion since 2011, and another one off Canal St in NSB since 2015. I personally teach:

Yin Yoga Sunday’s 4pm (every other week) @ Kula PO

Vinyasa Yoga 6pm (every other week) @ Kula NSB

Kids Aerial Yoga (ages 7-11) Wednesdays 4pm @ Kula NSB

Aerial Yoga 12pm Thursdays @ Kula NSB

We have many wonderful teachers and have multiple classes every day so I invite you to check out any and all of what we offer.

I would love to meet you all, and offer you a yoga practice. Your first class to Kula is always free, using the coupon code “Kula first” when you sign up.

Thank you for your support with our yoga and mindfulness kids programs and we look forward to seeing you Wednesday!

With much love and gratitude,

Mrs Michele Fedora

Little Yogis On School Campus

We had a great first class back yesterday at Chisholm Elementary! It was great to see both familiar and new faces! Ms. Ashley shared the yoga story of Parker Pig as we learned yoga asanas (postures) and centering techniques. All the little yogis were fantastic, and we are both grateful and excited to be back on campus this year! Thank you so much for supporting this Kula Yoga Kids program of bringing the yoga classes to the school. We are grateful to be of service to your little yogis and we look forward to yoga class with them on Mondays! With much gratitude,Michele Fedora

Kula Yoga Kids is back at Schools!

I am so excited to announce that Kula Yoga Kids is back in-person at local schools! Due to the pandemic and public school policies, we were not on Volusia County school campuses for the 2020-21 school year. This year we are back, starting in September with Preschool Yoga at Inspirations Beachside in Daytona and Elementary School Yoga at Chisholm Elementary in New Smyrna Beach! The schedule is linked below so you can sign your child or children up for some inspired classes of yoga, mindfulness and meditation practices that they will use for the rest of their lives.

If your child’s school is not listed, feel free to contact us with your request. New classes are being added to the schedule, and if we have the resources to help build this program in your community or at your school, we are happy to do so. Our mission at Kula Yoga Kids is to empower the youth of our community through yoga and mindfulness practices; giving them the tools they need to navigate through this ever changing, fast paced world.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa yoga translation os “to place in a certain way”. That’s it. We move the body into all these different shapes or asanas, and simply breathe. When we bring our attention and intention into our body using the posture, we create awareness, space, and healing. Anywhere we can create this space in the body, healing will occur. Sound too simple? It’s just the beginning. We bring breath and awareness into the physical body while we focus on the one pose we are actually doing so that the mind follows. Then we breath full deep breaths into the posture noticing anywhere there’s tension. Anywhere we find our edges of where we think we can be, we simply bring the breath in gently and more and more until there’s space to move and be.

As the physical body start to feel better, we notice how our mind is wound up, or how we are being. The healing happens in layers, one breath after another and one practice after another. There’s no where to get, no goal to achieve. Because once we think we’re there, we start healing more subtly. The 8 limbs of yoga give us a path to focus our mind, heal our bodies, and breathe into whatever shape we need to make in that moment. With ease and peace.

If you’d like to join some Vinyasa Yoga locally, our current schedule is:

Michele – Vinyasa Yoga every other Sunday 9am @ Kula Yoga Port Orange (also available on zoom), every other Monday 6pm @ Kula Yoga NSB

Jeff – Vinyasa Yoga Mondays 9am @ Mary McLeod Bethune Park, Wednesdays 12pm and Slow Flow Vin Yin Fridays 12pm – both @ Kula Yoga NSB
